Adding and Editing Text on Slides (स्लाइड्स पर टेक्स्ट जोड़ना)

Unlike a blank page in a word processor where you can click and start typing anywhere, you cannot type directly on the background canvas of a slide.

In presentation software, all text must be typed inside specialized containers called Placeholders or Text Boxes (टेक्स्ट बॉक्स).

1. What are Placeholders? (प्लेसहोल्डर क्या हैं?)

Placeholders are dotted-line bounding boxes on a slide layout that designate where titles, body bullet points, tables, or pictures should reside.

Standard placeholders include:

  • Title Placeholder (शीर्षक): Contains large, prominent font designed for the main slide title (e.g. "Types of Computer Networks").
  • Subtitle / Content Placeholder: Contains body text formatted automatically as bullet points.

To add text, simply click inside the placeholder box where it says "Click to add text" and begin typing!

2. Inserting Custom Text Boxes

If you need to add an extra caption, callout, or label outside the pre-set placeholders:

  • In LibreOffice Impress: Press the F2 function key!
  • Clicking F2 activates the Text Box tool immediately. Click and drag anywhere on the slide to draw a text container.
  • In MS PowerPoint: Click Insert Tab $\implies$ Text Box.

3. Formatting Text on Slides

  • Bullet Points & Numbered Lists:
  • Bulleted lists make complex concepts easy to scan for audiences.
  • To demote a bullet point to a secondary sub-bullet: Press Tab.
  • To promote a sub-bullet back to a primary bullet: Press Shift + Tab.
  • Font Size Guidelines for Presentations (The 6x6 Rule):
  • Slide text must be readable from the back row of an auditorium.
  • Main Slide Titles: 36 pt to 44 pt.
  • Body Bullet Points: 24 pt to 32 pt. Never use tiny fonts below 18 pt!
  • The 6x6 Rule: Aim for maximum 6 bullet points per slide, and maximum 6 words per bullet point to keep slides uncluttered!
