Supported Video Formats

PowerPoint performs best with .mp4 files encoded with H.264 video and AAC audio. It also supports .wmv, .mov, and .avi.

Embedding Local Video

The Video Format & Playback Tabs

Selecting an embedded video activates two contextual tabs:

• Video Format: Apply stylish frames, rounded borders, color corrections, and set a custom Poster Frame (the thumbnail image displayed before the video plays).
• Playback Tab:
• Start: Choose whether playback begins In Click Sequence, Automatically upon navigating to the slide, or When Clicked On.
• Trim Video: Set custom Start Time and End Time markers to cut unwanted footage without external software.
• Fade Duration: Add smooth Fade In and Fade Out audio/video transitions (e.g., 0.5 seconds).
• Play Full Screen: Video automatically expands to cover the entire display during playback.
• Loop until Stopped: Restarts continuously until the presenter advances to the next slide.

Adding Audio Narration & Background Music

Go to Insert > Audio:

• Audio on My PC: Insert background music (.mp3 or .wav).
• Record Audio: Use your microphone to record spoken commentary directly onto the slide.

Background Music Playback Across All Slides

To play ambient background music during an entire slide presentation:

• Start: Automatically

Using the Built-In Screen Recorder

PowerPoint includes a full-featured screen recorder perfect for software tutorials, website demos, and technical walkthroughs:

   The screen dims and a floating recording control dock appears at the top.
