Design consistency is the hallmark of professional decks. PowerPoint's Themes architecture controls universal palettes, typographic pairings, and background styles across an entire presentation with a single click, preventing mismatched fonts and discordant colors.

The Three Components of an Office Theme

An Office Theme is a unified design package composed of three interdependent layers:

   Theme Colors: A coordinated palette of 12 colors:

• 4 Text and Background colors (Light 1, Light 2, Dark 1, Dark 2)
• 6 Accent colors (used for charts, shape fills, callouts, and emphasis)
• 2 Hyperlink colors (standard link and followed link)

   Theme Fonts: A designated pair consisting of a Heading Font (used for titles) and a Body Font (used for bullet points and tables).

Applying & Switching Themes

Browse and apply themes on the Design tab:

   Click the downward scroll arrow on the Themes gallery to preview dozens of built-in templates.

   Hovering your mouse over any theme displays a real-time live preview across your slides.

   Click any theme to apply it across all slides in the deck.

   Selective Application: If you want a theme applied to only a specific section or slide, right-click the theme thumbnail in the gallery and choose Apply to Selected Slides.

Exploring Color Variants & Custom Palettes

Directly next to the Themes gallery is the Variants group:

• Variant Cards: Four pre-designed color and texture alternates of the active theme.
• Customizing Colors: Click the downward chevron in the Variants box > Colors:
• Choose from dozens of historical Office palettes (e.g., Office 2013-2022, Apex, Metro, Teal, Warm).
• Click Customize Colors at the bottom to define your organization's exact RGB or Hex color codes for Accent 1 through Accent 6. When you update Accent 1, every chart, icon, and colored box using Accent 1 updates synchronously!
• Customizing Fonts: Go to Variants > Fonts > Customize Fonts. Set your company's official corporate Heading and Body fonts (e.g., Segoe UI Semibold and Segoe UI). Name and save the font pairing for reuse across all future presentations.

Theme Colors vs. Standard Colors

When picking colors from the color palette dropdown:

• Theme Colors (Top Grid): Colors connected to the active theme palette. If you switch themes later, elements using these colors automatically update to match the new theme.
• Standard Colors (Bottom Row): Fixed universal colors (Dark Red, Red, Orange, Yellow, Light Green, Green, Light Blue, Blue, Dark Blue, Purple). These colors never change when switching themes.
• EyeDropper Tool: Pick any exact color from a company logo, photograph, or website on your screen to match branding flawlessly.
