In basic pattern matching, we match simple literal values like integers or strings. However, the true superpower of Python's Structural Pattern Matching (PEP 634 / PEP 636) lies in its ability to destructure complex data structures, validate shapes, evaluate conditional guards, and match against custom class objects.
You can unpack lists or tuples dynamically, binding variables to elements or capturing the remaining elements with *:
if)A Guard allows you to attach an if condition to a case branch. The pattern only succeeds if both the shape matches and the guard condition evaluates to True:
You can match against custom class instances and bind their attributes directly:
case ["user", *details]: achieve?case Point(x=0, y=y): work?case {"id": uid, "status": "active"}:), does the dictionary have to match ONLY those two keys?In the next lesson, we will apply our advanced comprehension and pattern skills in Project: Data Filtering with Comprehensions (1: Advanced Data Types & Comprehensions).
