Combining Multiple Visuals & Cross-Filtering
Reading Time: 8 Mins | Level: Beginner to Advanced
1. Cross-Filtering and Cross-Highlighting
In Power BI, visuals on a page are dynamically connected by default:
- Cross-Filtering: Clicking on a category (e.g., "Electronics") filters all other charts to display only Electronics data.
- Cross-Highlighting: Clicking on a category retains the full bar in muted grey and highlights the selected portion in vibrant color.
2. Edit Interactions: Controlling Visual Behavior
Sometimes you do not want a specific visual to filter another visual (e.g. an overall benchmark card should always show the full company total regardless of slicer clicks):
- 1Select the visual.
- 2Go to the Format ribbon $ o$ Click Edit Interactions.
- 3Click the None icon ($oslash$) on visuals you want to decouple!
