Cards and KPIs in Power BI

Reading Time: 8 Mins | Level: Beginner to Advanced

1. The Power of Big Numbers: Card Visuals

The Card Visual displays a single critical business number (e.g., Total Revenue ₹45.2 Cr, Active Users 1.2M, NPS Score +64). It is the most important element on an executive dashboard.

2. The New Card Visual (Multi-Card Container)

In modern Power BI, the New Card Visual allows:

  • Grouping multiple KPI cards into a clean horizontal container.
  • Adding reference labels (e.g. "+14% vs Last Month").
  • Adding dynamic accent bars and mini sparklines.

3. The KPI Visual

A specialized visual showing:

  1. 1
    The Value (current metric).
  2. 2
    The Target / Goal (benchmark).
  3. 3
The Trend axis (shaded background indicating trajectory).
  4. 4
Automatic color coding (Green if on target, Red if behind target).
